Microscopy 101

For the foreseeable future the compound light microscope will continue to be an anchor point in biology, metallurgy, forensics, technology, manufacturing and a host of other fields. Unfortunately it seems lately most educational institutions have reduced the level of instruction on these instruments, while using them has become more complex!

In any case I wanted to provide a single place where anyone can find good information on how to use microscopes, cameras, light sources and imaging software. If you need help with a subject not found here feel free to contact me.

Microscopes & Optics
I really like Nikon's Interactive Tutorials for almost any tutorial on optics or imaging techniques.

CCD Architecture
Take a look at either the Nikon Digital Imaging Center .
Photometrics has application notes, a glossary, encyclopedia and some other good info.

Software Fundamentals
You can get free software for basic training here. It should be used in conjunction with either one of the courses I provide or on your own with this library.
This group in the Netherlands has a great selection of image processing explanations.

You will also find that your microscope and/or imaging sales person is well versed in the operation of his or her products. Most sales people in our field are more technical than sales oriented, so be sure to use this resource!
